Melis Toktomushev, a specialist at Unison, conducts open lessons for schoolchildren from villages in the Naryn region for the second week, and talks about the basics of energy conservation in the home. These lessons are a separate component of the large eBilim mobile digital library initiative developed by the Institute for Mountain Community Studies at the University of Central Asia.
The class lesson program from the Unison Foundation includes experiments with thermal insulation materials and models that clearly show the effect of insulation measures and attract the genuine interest of schoolchildren. The lesson package also includes a tuyunchok thermos, a favorite product of the Ushubo/Be Warm, Kyrgyzstan campaign, and a candle heater, simple and attractive devices for storing and disposing of heat in everyday activities. The set is equipped with various types of energy-saving and non-energy-saving lighting devices and other information materials for schoolchildren.
"The most active participants are fifth grade students, mostly boys, who are directly involved in household chores, in particular on insulation. There are always a lot of questions during the lesson, this topic is close and interesting to everyone, and our advice is always met with immediate application. Teachers consult for a long time after the lesson on specific problems of home insulation and heat conservation," says Melis Toktomushev.
Demonstration models of insulated and non-insulated houses are very popular with small testers who want to test the properties of heat preservation.
The renovated minibus with a mobile digital library has already visited 5 villages of the Atbashi district, and 2 villages of the Aktala district – Konorchok and Ak-Kyya. Next week, open lessons will be held in 5 schools in villages of Naryn district. Trainers of the information campaign "Ushubo/Be warm, Kyrgyzstan-II" will also come to some of these villages. This time, they will gather adult villagers in the premises of aiyl okmots, where they will talk about practical tips on energy conservation, optimal care for the "health" of the house/building with all its components and technical systems, and will provide advice on the rights of energy consumers.
The eBilim initiative was developed and is being implemented by the Institute for Mountain Community Research at the University of Central Asia (UCA IIGS) with the financial support of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ GmbH). The eBilim electronic database allows users to print and download information to USB, DVD, mobile phones and other devices. The database includes thematic areas such as agriculture, health, education, law, literature, films, news, and teaching materials for teachers.
